Beyond Human

The development of the exponential growth of human capabilities.

AS WE

continue to become the creators of new biological, mechanical, and technological creations, or as Jason Silva calls it, “turning into Gods,” the question to ask is:
At what point does humanity eliminate religion as we know it?

WE

are only about 1% different and smarter than the smartest Chimpanzee.  What would happen if a different life form came about, that was 1% different from us, in the same direction that we are different from the Chimpanzee?

AT&T in 1993 predicts technology and services of today.  They were right.

THE INTERNET

knows more about you faster than any friend or family member does.  By “the internet” I also mean advertisers.

Cheers.

Toddlers and Me

I’ll mix a bit of personal life here.  I have a goddaughter whose age is 16 months.  At 16 months she has developed a fairly adequate learning of how to use my iPhone.  That’s not very surprising to me, since she is a very smart toddler.  Plus, I’m sure she’s not the only child with such capabilities.

The amazing thing to me is the fact that at her young age, her current assumption of the world is that smartphones/tablets/and all other tech I have around the house is completely the norm.  (Referring back to the iPhone) The idea of being able to access any video, song, or game she desires, at any given moment and at any place she wants, is incredibly normal to her.  Anything less at this point would be absurd.

I am 25 years old, and the capabilities of what our smartphones can do still boggles my mind.  I was first introduced to smartphones back in 2008, shortly after the release of the 1st gen iPhone.  This means I was 20 years old.  Again, my goddaughter is only 16 months old, and has a basic understanding of the iPhone.  This means that technologically speaking, she is already 20 years ahead of me.  It took 20 years for me to be introduced to the connecting capabilities of smartphones.  She, well, she was born into it.  I think she was born in the greatest time in history.  We are creating new technologies faster than in any other time in history.  I cannot wait to see what is yet to come for her as she continues to grow.

The future… yeah it’s that exciting.   Think. Create. Evolve.

Innovega to demonstrate contact lens display today at CES.
I covered the Innovega contact lens here after they revealed details of the product at CES last year. Now the company has announced that a working version of the HUD contact lens will be shown at CES from today.

From January 8th to 11th, Innovega will demonstrate eyewear that offers a clear and simultaneous view of a wearer’s rich media and of their immediate surroundings”.
The Innovega iOptik™ video eyewear is transparent and its ‘virtual canvas’ on which digital content is placed, is the largest anticipated in the industry. Compared to a conventional 42 inch flat-panel television that consumers buy for their living rooms, Innovega’s mobile eyewear accessory will deliver the equivalent of a 240 inch, HD, 3D experience.

Gaze tracking device nearing release.
The Tobii REX is a small USB powered device able to accurately track a users gaze with enough precision to use it instead of a mouse pointer. While a developer version is available now for US$995, the Tobii says they will make 5,000 of the REX’s available before the end of 2013, presumably for a much cheaper price.
dvice checked it out at CES, here’s what they had to say:

It’s easy to be skeptical about such a claim, but we tried it for ourselves, and it works flawlessly. It’s one of those rare technologies that totally feels like The Future.

Visual tracking- awesome!
